Since 1915, AAUW Asheville has championed education and equality for women and girls. As one of North Carolina’s oldest branches, our 111 members form a vibrant community of advocates united by a common purpose: advancing gender equity through action.

Who We Are

Our members come from diverse backgrounds and corners of the globe, all bringing unique perspectives to our shared mission. If you hold an associate degree (or equivalent, such as RN), bachelor’s degree, or higher from an accredited institution, we invite you to join us.

What We Do

Branch Meetings: Four to five times a year, we host dynamic speakers who tackle pressing issues in women’s education and equality.

Advocacy and Public Policy: A dynamic group providing forums, speakers, and guidance on how we can advance programs and platforms that help women and girls in our community, state and nationally.

Special Interest Groups: Connect with fellow members through:

  • Book and film discussion groups exploring compelling narratives
  • Current events discussion examining today’s critical topics
  • Monthly art tours at the Asheville Museum of Art
  • Gourmet dining experiences featuring international cuisines at members’ homes

These gatherings offer more than intellectual stimulation—they’re where friendships bloom and you might just meet someone who knows your hometown or alma mater.

Making a Difference

GEM Fund (Gaining Educational Momentum): As a member your part of a dynamic philanthropy providing scholarships for local women attending college for the first time or returning to complete their education. Every contribution to The GEM Fund is tax-deductible and changes lives.

National Advocacy: We are proud to be part of AAUW’s powerful legal advocacy, education initiatives, and public policy work that creates lasting change nationwide.
